Freiburg University in Germany Visited ICBR for Academic Exchanges

March 18, 2015 saw Prof. Heinrich Spiecker and Prof. Drik Jaeger from Freiburg University in Germany visiting the International Centre for Bamboo and Rattan (ICBR) for academic exchanges at the invitation of Research Fellow Liu Shirong, Secretary General of Communist Party of China (CPC) Committee of ICBR. Research Fellow Fei Benhua, Executive Deputy Director of ICBR, met with German experts, and exchanged views on the areas and approach of cooperation in the future between the two sides. Researchers from Research Institute of Green Economy, ICBR and postgraduates from Research Institute of Bamboo & Rattan Biomass and New Materials, ICBR joined in the meeting.

In the meeting, Prof. Heinrich Spiecker and Prof. Drik Jaeger respectively delivered presentations entitled “Introduction of Freiburg University” and “Utilization of wood residues-an underrated resource for renewable energy production in China”, which systematically elaborated scientific research and personnel training of Freiburg University, R&D and application of wood residues in Germany, research results and market potential of producing renewable energy by Chinese forestry residues. In return, scientists of ICBR briefed German experts about ICBR and studies on bamboo biomass pellet. Both sides shared opinions on personnel training, R&D of wood- and bamboo-based materials for green energy, etc.

German experts also toured around the International Bamboo and Rattan Showroom and Key Laboratory for Bamboo and Rattan Science and Technology.
