January 20, 2015 saw Research Fellow Liu Shirong, Secretary General of CPC Committee of International Center for Bamboo and Rattan (ICBR), heading a delegation composed of Research Fellow Fan Shaohui, Associate Research Fellows Guan Fengying and Su Wenhui, and Dr. Shi Lei visited National Geomatics Center of China (NGCC) for academic exchange. Chief Engineer Chen Jun of NGCC, Division Director Liao Anping of Department of Remote Sensing & Photogrammetry, Deputy Division Director Hu Junhong of Department of Science, Technology & International Cooperation, and Senior Engineer Li Ran of Department of Information Service, etc. joined the exchange.

At the meeting, Chen Jun introduced the world’s first product covering 30 meters of global land data (GlobeLand30). The data covered the scope of the global land area, covering 10 categories of information including arable land, water, forest, etc., which reached the international advanced level in spatial resolution, temporal resolution and classification accuracy, etc., and provided important basic data for global change research and sustainability planning. Experts of ICBR launched in-depth exchanges and discussions from different disciplines on the product.

Dr. Liu Shirong spoke highly of the product, and expressed ICBR’s hope to work with NGCC in cooperative research to jointly develop more products of remote sensing to meet the needs of application in forests, wetlands and bamboo resource monitoring, etc., so as to solve some challenges encountered in China’s forestry growth.
