
Jiang Zehui, Fellow of the International Academy of Wood Science, Chief Scientist, Professor, and Doctoral Supervisor. She graduated from the Forestry Department of Anhui Agricultural University in 1960 with a bachelor’s degree in forestry. In 1960, she pursued further studies at the Wood Properties Research Laboratory of the Research Institute of Wood Industry, Chinese Academy of Forestry. She previously served as President of Anhui Agricultural University. In February 1993, she was elected Vice Chairperson of the Standing Committee of the Anhui Provincial People’s Congress. In January 1996, she was transferred to the former Ministry of Forestry, where she served as a member of the Party Leadership Group and President of th e Chinese Academy of Forestry. She has held the positions of Vice-Chair of the Committee for Population, Resources & Environment of the 9th to 12th CPPCC National Committee, member of the 4th and 5th Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council, Standing Committee member of the 5th and 6th China Association for Science and Technology, President of the Chinese Society of Forestry, President of China Ecological Culture Association, President of China Bamboo Industry Association, and Executive Vice President of the Chinese Society of Wood Science.
A renowned wood scientist and forestry expert both domestically and internationally, she has long been engaged in teaching, research, and scientific management in fields such as forest utilization, Chinese forestry engineering, wood science and technology, and related disciplines. She has chaired and participated in a number of major research projects, including national strategic study projects and scientific and technological projects, programs sponsored by China National Natural Science Fund, and international projects financed by the Global Environment Facility (GEF), the International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO) and the Common Fund for Commodities (CFC). Her research has won her 1 first prize and 3 second prizes from the National Science and Technology Progress Awards and 8 ministry-level prizes. Prof. Jiang holds over 110 patents and has authored over 50 monographs, including Wood Properties of the Global Important Tree Species (in Chinese and English), Forestry Engineering in China, Modern Forestry of China, Identification and Uses of Wood in Southeast Asia, Bamboo and Rattan in the World (in Chinese and English), The Charm of Bamboo (in Chinese and English), and Mainstream Culture in an Era of Ecological Civilization – Pandect on China’s Eco-Culture System. In addition, she has published more than 500 journal papers and supervised over 100 postgraduate students and postdoctoral fellows in the discipline of forestry engineering.
