On May 18th, 2022, the "Seminar on Green Development Driven by Bamboo and Rattan Technology Innovation for Developing Countries" sponsored by the Ministry of Commerce of China, organized by ICBR and co-organized by INBAR was officially launched in Beijing. Dr. Fei Benhua, Executive Deputy Director General of ICBR and Dr. Lu Wenming, Deputy Director-General of INBAR attended the opening ceremony and gave their remarks respectively.

A total of 49 officials from 7 developing countries has signed up for this seminar, which will be conducted online for 14 days. Experts and scholars from ICBR, INBAR, the Chinese Academy of Forestry, Beijing Forestry University and other research institutions and universities were invited to give lectures on a wide range of topics, including China’s bamboo-related policy, the development and technological innovation of China's bamboo and rattan industry, bamboo and rattan international trade, bamboo and rattan product standards, efficient cultivation and management of bamboo and rattan resources, bamboo processing and utilization, bamboo construction, bamboo charcoal, bamboo musical instruments, bamboo weaving culture and so on. The seminar also include content such as China's fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, poverty alleviation practice, national conditions and cultures.

Bamboo and rattan are two important renewable resources and a precious wealth endowed to human beings by nature. As one of the countries with the largest variety and widest distribution of bamboo in the world, China has been committed to promoting technological innovation of bamboo and rattan and the green development of bamboo and rattan industry. The purpose of this seminar is to share the practices, experiences and achievements of China so that the participants from all over the world can fully understand the significance of the bamboo and rattan industry in promoting economic and social development, improving the ecological environment, facilitating the adjustment of industrial structure, the transformation of economic growth mode and the sustainable development of the bamboo and rattan industry in developing countries.
