The International Centre for Bamboo and Rattan (ICBR) is a non-profit research institution affiliated to the National Forestry and Grassland Administration (NFGA), which was established in 2000 after joint approval from the State Commission Office for Public Sector Reform, the Ministry of Finance, and the Ministry of Science and Technology. Its mission is to build direct supports to and cooperate with the first China-based intergovernmental international organization - the International Bamboo and Rattan Organisation (INBAR) -for better fulfilling the Host Country Agreement of INBAR, as well as promoting the sustainability of bamboo and rattan industry development. Approved by the State Forestry Administration, now the National Forestry and Grassland Administration, and supported by the International Centre for Bamboo and Rattan (ICBR), the Academy of Bio-resource Utilization was established in 2009.
