On 9 June 2026, the launch ceremony for the project “Promoting Bamboo Industry Development to Achieve Green Growth and Poverty Reduction in Madagascar”, funded by the China Global Development and South-South Cooperation Fund and led by the International Bamboo and Rattan Organization (INBAR), was held in Antananarivo, Madagascar.

Ji Ping, Chinese Ambassador to Madagascar, and Zamani Erinia Ruffin, Secretary-General of Madagascar’s Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development, attended the event and delivered remarks. Li Lan, Deputy Director General of INBAR, delivered a video message. As the Chinese technical support partner, the International Centre for Bamboo and Rattan (ICBR) sent representatives to participate in the event.

The project aims to draw on China’s extensive experience and best practices in bamboo industry development to help Madagascar address existing challenges, facilitate the technological upgrading of local bamboo enterprises, and strengthen their capacity to create jobs and promote sustainable livelihoods.

ICBR will fully leverage its technical expertise by mobilizing expert teams to conduct resource assessments and provide technical advisory and training support, thereby delivering strong technical assistance to ensure the effective implementation of the project.
