On March 19th, 2019, at the invitation of the Institute of Chemical Utilization of Bamboo & Rattan Resources of ICBR, Dr. Yang Jun from the University of California, Davis (UC Davis) visited ICBR for academic exchanges. A seminar was held for this visit, which was chaired by LI Fengbo, Deputy Director General of ICBR, and well-attended by researchers and postgraduate students.

Dr. Yang gave a presentation titled "Metabolomics and its Application - An In-depth Study of Bamboo and Rattan", in which he introduced in detail the application of metabolomics in interdisciplinary fields and explained the relationship between metabolome and genome, transcriptome and proteome. With the example where chemical components that cause the bitter taste in bamboo shoots were identified using metabolomic analysis, Dr. Yang proposed strategies to incorporate metabolomics into the research on bamboo and rattan. Participants at the seminar shared their thoughts on how these sciences could benefit bamboo and rattan studies.
