Between August 8th to 11th, secretary of the party committee and deputy director of ICBR Mr. YIN Gangqiang led a 5 person delegation to Vietnam to carry out a field research for a project on national bamboo technology exchange and cooperation among B&R countries.

 

The delegation arrived in Hanoi on August 8th and went straight to the Non-timber Forest Product Center (NFPC) under Vietnam Academy of Forest Sciences (VAFS). A discussion session was held and joined by officials from local agriculture, forestry and international cooperation authorities as well as academics and technical experts from VAFS. After the session, both parties reached consensus that ICBR and VAFS has a huge potential in bamboo cultivation and utilization, especially in bamboo germplasm resources, breeding, bamboo harvesting and storage, high-quality value-adding bamboo processing, standardization and human resources exchange. 

 

Deputy Chief of VNForest Dr. Phan met with the delegation on August 8th. He welcomed the delegates and expressed strong interests in bilateral forestry cooperation between Vietnam and China. The delegation presented about China’s forestry in general and bamboo and rattan sector in particular, as well as basic information on ICBR’s willingness to cooperate in bamboo policy, germplasm resources cultivation and breeding, bamboo forest certification, bamboo processing and utilization, etc. 

 

Mr. Phan echoed the point that China-Vietnam forestry cooperation is deepening. By taking part in bilateral technical and industrial cooperation, the bamboo industry in both country will benefit.

 

During the visit, Dr. Phan from VAFS accompanied the delegation to a field research of the FSC-certified bamboo forest and local company BWG. Later, the delegation headed to Ho Chi Minh City and visited the Saigon Botanical garden, local bamboo handicraft bazaar and bamboo enterprises.
