On May 12, the National Forestry and Grassland Administration (NFGA) of China and the Embassy of Brazil in Beijing co-organized a symposium entitled “the Road to COP30: China-Brazil cooperation on vegetation restoration and forest carbon sinks” in Beijing. The event was attended and addressed by Mr. Li Yunqing, Vice-Administrator of NFGA, and Ms. Marina Silva, Minister of Environment and Climate Change of Brazil. Mr. Yin Gangqiang, Deputy Director General of the International Centre for Bamboo and Rattan (ICBR) led a team of ICBR experts to attend the symposium.

 

For the keynote speeches, Mr. Guo Qingjun, Director General of the Department of Ecology of NFGA, shared the actions taken by China’s forestry and grassland sector in addressing climate change and their achievements. Mr. Garo Batmanian, Director General of the Brazilian Forest Service, presented Brazil's efforts on forest conservation and vegetation restoration. The keynote speeches were followed by an in-depth discussion among participants on reforestation technologies and practices.

 

The forestry sector of China and Brazil will take this symposium as an opportunity to strengthen friendly exchanges, enhance mutual understanding, put into practice the concept of sustainable development, and contribute to the building of a China-Brazil community with a shared future for a more just world and a more sustainable planet.
