Hu Tao, professor and Master’s supervisor, serves as Deputy-Director of Research Institute of Garden Flowers and Landscape of the International Centre for Bamboo and Rattan (ICBR).

Majors for Graduate Recruitment: Landscape Plants and Ornamental Horticulture, Forestry

Educational Background:He obtained his Ph.D. degree in Landscape Plants and Ornamental Horticulture from the Chinese Academy of Forestry in 2009. He conducted academic exchanges on plant genetic breeding and molecular biology techniques at Texas A&M University (USA) in 2010 and University of Göttingen (Germany) in 2013 respectively. Currently, he serves as Deputy Director of the Institute of Landscape Flowers and Scenery, International Center for Bamboo and Rattan, and Deputy Secretary-General of the National Technical Committee on Floriculture Standardization (SAC/TC282).

Research Interests & Academic Achievement:

Dr. Hu has been committed to the research on genetic breeding of bamboo, rattan, ornamental flowers and landscape plants. His main work includes the collection and preservation of germplasm resources of bamboo, narcissus, peony, orchid and northern herbaceous flowers, as well as the integrated breeding through multiple approaches such as molecular breeding, space mutation breeding and induced mutation breeding. He also carries out research on the genomics and molecular mechanisms of important ornamental traits of landscape plants, and conducts practices on the introduction and domestication of traditional Chinese famous flowers and ornamental bamboos in northern China.

He has presided over more than 10 scientific research projects, including the General Program of the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the National Key R&D Program of the 14th Five-Year Plan Period. He has published more than 20 academic papers in journals such as Industrial Crops & Products, Plant Molecular Biology and Scientific Data. He is a co-author of one academic monograph A History of Modern Chinese Landscape Architecture, and also participates in compiling reports such as the China Floriculture Industry Development Report. He has won 1 First-Class Award of the Natural Science Award of the Liang Xi Forestry Science and Technology Award, and has obtained more than 10 authorized patents and software copyrights.
