
Sun Fengbo, professor and master’s supervisor, works at the Research Institute of Bamboo and Rattan Biomass New Materials of the International Centre for Bamboo and Rattan (ICBR).
Educational Background
2000-2004, undergraduate studies at Shandong Agricultural University, majoring in Agronomy; 2004-2007, master's studies at Beijing Forestry University, majoring in Forest Genetics and Breeding, focusing on the genetic variation of poplar wood properties; 2007-2010, doctoral studies at the Chinese Academy of Forestry Sciences, majoring in Wood Science and Technology, researching bamboo wood properties and modification.
Work and research experience
After graduating with a PhD in 2010, I joined the International Center for Bamboo and Rattan, engaged in bamboo material modification, original bamboo engineering materials research and product development, etc.
The research work conducted from 2007 to the present includes the following aspects: (1) in-situ loading of nano-titanium dioxide on bamboo surfaces to enhance their antibacterial and anti-mold properties; (2) γ-ray irradiation modification of bamboo to improve dimensional stability and mold resistance; (3) cell wall modification of bamboo, using esterification reactions between organic acids and sorbitol with bamboo cell walls to enhance dimensional stability; (4) low-temperature modification of round bamboo to induce light carbonization, reducing cracking rates and enhancing material durability, leading to the development of new products such as standardized round bamboo; (5) development and process improvement of bamboo-woven safety helmets, including studies on impact resistance of bamboo-woven safety helmets and their components, as well as the formulation of product group standards.
