September 15, 2026, Session 2 of the International Conference on Forest Governance under Global Change, themed “Biomass Restructuring and Germplasm Innovation for Bamboo Forest under Global Change”, was convened both offline and online at Beijing Friendship Hotel. Hosted by Professor Gao Zhimin and Associate Professor Xu Qing from the International Centre for Bamboo and Rattan, the session brought together more than 40 domestic and international bamboo experts to discuss cutting‑edge scientific issues concerning bamboo genetic engineering breeding, bamboo resource monitoring and bamboo utilization amid global change.

Eight high‑level academic talks covered the full spectrum from basic research to industrial application, sharing latest findings on bamboo regeneration systems, shoot growth regulation, lignin modification, gene mining for substituting plastic, bamboo carbon‑sink improvement, remote‑sensing monitoring, bamboo processing and ISO international standard development.

Participants highlighted the strategic importance of bamboo forests responding to climate change and the initiative “Bamboo as a Substitute for Plastic”. This session built an industry‑university‑research cooperation platform, boosting theoretical and technical exchanges on bamboo germplasm innovation and green bamboo‑based materials, and contributing to fostering new‑quality productive forces and high‑quality development of the bamboo industry.
