On 26 July, Mr. Anton Sarath Jayakody, Deputy Minister of Environment of Sri Lanka, led a delegation on a visit to the International Centre for Bamboo and Rattan (ICBR). Mr. Qin Daochun, Director General of ICBR, together with representatives from the Department of International Cooperation and Exchange, the Key Laboratory of National Forestry and Grassland Administration on Bamboo and Rattan, the Institute of Bamboo and Rattan Biomass and New Materials, and the Institute of Bamboo and Rattan Resources and Environment, attended the meeting and exchanged views with the delegation.

During the meeting, the Sri Lankan delegation introduced the current status of  bamboo and rattan industry development in their country, they specifically requested technical guidance and advice on bamboo seedling propagation technologies and industrial scaling-up. In response, ICBR experts shared China’s practical experience in developing the bamboo and rattan industry, presented a range of well-established technical solutions covering bamboo breeding, protection and treatment methods, and product commercialization. These solutions are considered readily adaptable to Sri Lanka’s local conditions and were proposed as viable references to support the sustainable growth of the country’s bamboo and rattan sector.

Both sides agreed to further strengthen exchanges and actively promote practical cooperation in bamboo and rattan science and technology research, and industrial development between China and Sri Lanka, contributing to green and sustainable development objectives.
